Christian Education

Thursday evening last week (March 31) Daniel’s school, Prince Avenue Christian School (associated with the Baptist church – oh, my!) had their Spring banquet and fundraiser.

It reiterated for both of us the utmost importance of Christian education. A child’s world view is fairly set by age 13. By that time they are being affected by the world’s view of things; much of which is not good. We can’t keep that from happening, but we can put it in the proper perspective – His.

In Deuteronomy, just after the retelling of the 10 Commandments in chapter 5 and right after the great “Shema” (the great Jewish creed from 6:4 [ESV],

“Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one.” or
“Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God is one LORD.”

and the following verses of the greatest commandments (from Deut. 6:5 [ESV]

“You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.”

we hear:

“The commandments I give you today must be in your hearts. Make sure your children learn them. Talk about them when you are at home. Talk about them when you walk along the road. Speak about them when you go to bed. And speak about them when you get up. Write them down and tie them on your hands as a reminder. Also tie them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses. Also write them on your gates.” -Deut. 6:7-9 [NIRV]

And in Proverbs 22:6 [ESV]:

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

What an awesome and extremely important task and privilege we have to do this!

Thank you Lord!
